WHEN HE WAS

Once upon tline the young Stanley Baldwin was 17-and shy! He knew nothing of women, He went to a dance and met a Girton Girl.

They danced

in the course of the dance the Girton Girl told young Mr. Bald- win that "men had no natural modesty."

Recently Mr. Stanley Baldwin (now aged 63-and no longer shy) told an audience of Girten Girls all about this first alarming ea- counter with the Fair Sex. It was at the Girton College dinner at the Hyde Park Hotel.

Mr. "I felt instinctively," said Baldwin, that men had natural modesty.

fact, it is perfectly well known that men have much more modes- tyat any rate, in their earlier years-than women."

Whereat, all the Girton girls laughed!

"I will not say," went on Mr. Baldwin (unabashed by the laugh- ter), "that that conversation set up in my mind an appreciation of the turn a conversation might take if ever I met another Girton girl. For many years I kept out of their way.

"But," he added (when the laughter had died down again), "we (men) welcome with

bath handa the work which educated women can do, and which Hes be- fore them in an ever-increasing area every year. And for those engaged in an occupation such as the Mistress of Girton, there is no higher and greater adventure in the world to-day."

ANOTHER DECISIVE WIN

FOR THE CLUB,

Four goals and four tries (32 points) to a try (3 pointa) was the result of yesterday's gamo at the Club Ground, when the Cl "A" Afteen met a team from HM.S. Kont The Club commenced two men ohort, and it was during this time that the Navy scored their only try.

There were two changes in the Club side, Cox coming in for Peers, ind Kerr playing instead of Hartley. The Kent Ride was:

Tel: Crawford; Lt. Cdr. Evans, Lt. Cdr. Andrew; Sub; Lt. Tomkinson; Tol. Kerstein, Lt.Cdr. Chianolm- Batten: Lt. Crick, Lt. Cook, Pay Lt. ilaker, 'ny Lt. Wh. Lohouse, Pay Lt. Weekes, Mid. Shepherd, P. O, Tubb, A. B. Deykin.

The best movement of the day came when Segnler, at full-back fielded the ball cleverly from a penalty kick to the Kent, ran up and set the three- The quarters going on the right. ball went out in Johnson, who passed an he was being tackled, got up and was in time to take King's pass near the line and get over. King had a good run to score when he dribbled, picked up, and ran through fairly comfortably. Mention must also be made of Plummer's try, for he handed off a Kent defender for about twenty Yards to run over the line,

Tries were scored in the fist half by Tomkinson (Kent) and Bonnar and Johnson (Club), Andrew being junt short with the place-kick from Tomkinson's score, whilst Segalen converted Johnson's effort. In the Recond half, King scored twice, and Plummer, Johnson, Law, Bonnar and Allera once euch. Segalen converted two tries, and Johnson one. Segalen A both lucky and unfortunate, one kick hitting the bar and bouncing over, and the last one dropping from the r to the ground underneath.

Evans and Andrew were the main- stays of the Kent side, especially in the first half, making several good ruina. In the second half, and with Crick gone from the serum through an Injury, they had to concentrate on defence, and tackled well Allera changed with King at half-time and showed that he is a better centre than dy-half.
