A thrilling rescue, in which a woman and four men were maroon- ed for an hour on the rocks, is re- ported from the north coast of Jersey Island.

While bathing, Mr. William Gilbert, of Speenham-road, Brixton, who is over 60, heard cries for help,

Soon after 6 am. the brute was discovered in the fowl yard of a prominent resident, where it had plain and devoured a number of hens. Escaping into the bush on the north-eastern boundary of the town, it lay low for a while, but about two hours later it loped its way gently down First Street, the main thoroughfare of the town leading to the station, followed at a discreet distance by a vociferous horde of native houseboys.
