AN INSTALLATION.

Interference by some unknown person with an electric installa. tion belonging to the China Light and Power Company near a house in the course of construction in Shapo Road partly caused the death, on July 16 last, of a work man who grasped the wire and Was electrocuted. The fatality had a sequel before Mr. "Whyte Smith at the Kowloon Magistracy yesterday afternoon when a Coro ner's inquiry, with the assistance of a jury, was held into the cir- cumstances of the mishap.

The evidence of Dr. T. W. Ware showed that death was due to shock which might have been caused by any way as there were no external signs of violence or disease. Neither the clothes nor the man's body bore signs of burning, but the findings of the post mortem examination were con sistent with death by electrocu- tion.

In cases of sudden electrocu- tion, continued the witness, there burning, generally some while on the other hand it was not usual for a person to be killed by such a low voltage as in the present case.

The witness mentioned that in the case of a low voltage there might not be enough current to cause burning, and it very seldom killed. People differed consider- ably, however, in their response to electric burning. Witness im- self had had a shock with 240 volts without any apparent effects, but witness had only touched the wire with one hand while the de- censed appeared to have touched it with both.
