SUCCESSFUL CABARET

CONCERT.

TAIKOO CLUB'S INNOVATION ATTRACTS.

Taikoo Club's concerts, arranged on the cabaret style of interspers ing dances with items, are certainly meeting with much success, for the streamer decorated ball room t the club was filled to its capacity, on Saturday night with merry-mak ing people. There appears every encouragement for the club to con tinue these rather informal gather. inge

The night's musical programme was strengthened by items by the Kai Tak Follies, whoso light comedy sketches kept the dancers amused between fox-trots while the several items were most entertaining.

Mr. J. J. Cornelius chose several rollicking stirring songs that suited this baritone admirably and his rendering of the popular "Sergeant Major on Parade" was well received. His other items were "The Leader of the Town's Brass Band," "Hin- ton and Dinton and Mero" and " "The Blue Dragoons" and he re ceived much support from Mrs. Cornelius at the piano,

The brackets of dainty English Snowdon ballads which Mrs. E.

Jones contributed prored excep tionally popular and she was called- upon for two or three encores. The. old favourites "The Captive Lark" and "Cherry Ripe" were included in her numbers.

The Fallies members who assisted were Messrs. Cox, Tower, Summers, and Muirhead, and spontaneous laughter grected all their itetas. The Acros Band contributed the dance inusic..

Among those present were Mr. and. Mrs. T. II. R. Shaw.

One of the most pleased with the night was Mr. J. Russell, who had worked hard in organising the affair.

KOWLOON FOOTBALL CLUB CONCERT-

SATURDAY NIGHT'S FUNC- TION A GREAT SUCCESS. With the weather remaining clear, although rain threatened to fall on occasions the concert ar- ranged by the Kowloon Football Club on the tennis courts on Satur- day night proved an unqualified success and those who had the good fortune to enjoy the programme of musical items such as was provided: will look forward to further func tions of a similar nature.

With a long programme and en cores being demanded from each of the artistes the concert extended to a late hour of the night, causing many people to leave before the final item was given: The Hong- kong String Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. F. Mason, opened the programme with Elgar's Chan- son de Matin which was followed by two songs by Mr. d'Aquino.

Mr. J. Blackley was warmly mp

Mr. L. A. Jeaves handled his humorous songs with credit and made a great hit with his reasons for being reluctant to get thin. Mrs. G. R.
