NANKING PROTEST TO BRITAIN,
MR. LENOX SIMPSON'S NEW POST.
Nanking, June 19. In view of Mr. Lenox Simp- con- son's assumption of office in nexion with Yen Hsi-ahan's seizure of the Tientsin Customs, the National Government has lodged a vigorous protest with the British Government and requested that Mr. Lenox Simpson be deported and dealt with according to law. Tientsin, June 19. Mr. Lenox Simpson, interviewed by Reuter this afternoon, stated that the section of the Tientsin Customs revenue comprising the old five per cent. duties upon which the foreign loans are secured, and which has been trans- ferred to Shanghai every week, will be transferred thence to morrow and will include the re venues since the taking over of the Customs on Monday last. Telegraphic advice to this effect has already been sent to the In- spector General of Customs at Shanghai.
Regarding the domestic loans, while the present instructions from the Northern authorities regarding the disposal of the additional duties and aurtax are that 'everything shall be held in- tact, the case of these loans will be brought to the attention of the authorities concerned, and Mr. Lenox Simpson emphasised that he regards the payments of Chin- ese loans not one whit less obligatory than the foreign loans.
