Numerous

measures were taken to augment the regular supplies, among them the drawing of 19.19 million gallons of water from the Taikoo Refinery supply, which was connected with the Government main at North Point; 40 million gallons were transported from Laichikok to tanks on Praya by water boats; 13.09 million

were transported by the same means to similar tanks from Tsun Wan, and 13.41 million gallons were imported from outports and Canton by the Water Emergency Committee. In all a total of 88.54 million gallons of water were thus supplied, or an average daily supply of 0,22 million gallons from February

Streams Diverted. Altogether 21 tanks of a total capacity of 1.05 million gallons were erected on the Praya between Douglas Strect and Kennedy Town and on the Praya East Reclamation. Approximately half of the tanke were supplied with water from Lai Chi Kok and Trun Wan and the re- mainder with imported supplies. Fountains north of Queen's Road were generally closed whilst tank- supplies were available.

With a 4 hours per day supply and the above supplice in operation the draw-off from the permanent supply fell below 3 million gallons

per day.

In addition to the above supplies several streams were diverted into the Bowen Road and Pokfulum Conduite and yielded approximately 100 million gallons after the rains nd set in. A further 45 million wallons was likewise obtained by the

straction of a channel approxi mately 4.500 feet in length at Tytam Tuk. This channel, which was com- pleted on July 22, diverts the run off from 150 acres into Tytam Tuk Reservoir and as that réservoir did not overflow during the year the full benefit of theso additional sup- plies was obtained. s channel
