"Red Hot Chicago-Fox Trot." In the first case the defendant Wasn't it beautiful while it lasted? was alleged to have passed

--Fox Trot" pamphlet to a pedestrian in the atreet on April 30 and, when the receiver had shown the document to a friend who was talking to a detective, the defendant was ar- rested. He was seen to drop an other pamphlet which he had in his possession at the time.

The accused argued that he had hirasolf been handed Bome pamphlets, but without even look- ing at them he had given all but one to other people who were stand- ing about. He intimated that he was in the same position as the wit- ness for the prosecution who had been given a document. Defendant denied he was the distributor.

His Worship, after taking the evidence, said that he did not think he would feel comfortable in convict- ing. He pointed out that every thing depended on the evidence of the pedestrian, who alleged that the defendant had given him the docu- ment.

The Second Case.

The evidence in the second case was even weaker, a private watch- man, who worked in the same fac- tory as the defendant, giving evi- dence in contradiction to a Shan- tung constable, who said that he had seen the defendant throwing several pamphlets away.

The Indian, however, said that he saw the defendant pick up a document from the roadway where were strewn several other pieces of paper. Whilst he was reading the pamphlet the Shantung constable appeared on the scene and the de- fendant, on seeing him, threw the document away. He was then ar- rested.

The defendant was discharged.

She will be thrown open for inspec- tion to-day between 2 and 5 p.m.. when a large number of visitors are | expected on board.
