HOCKEY CLUB IST

XI DEFEATED.

A GOOD GAME AT KING'S PARK YESTERDAY,

Playing with one man short, the Hongkong Hockey Club 1st XI were defeated by the Hongkong and Singa pore Brigade, R.A., by two goals to one after a good game at King's Park yesterday afternoon.

Not only did the Club play with only ten men but they also had a weakened half-back line. They nevertheless gave a very good account of them selves, and only bad luck deprived them of a draw, a goal scored towards the end of the match being disallowed by the referce,

Half-time found the score sheet, still blank, but Owen Hughes opened the score for the Club shortly after the resumption. The gunners were far from being disheartened by this reverse, and piled up two goals as a result of some good play. There was no further scoring.

A JAPANESE ART EXHIBITION.

WATER AND OIL COLOUR PAINTINGS.

1

Messra, Komor and Komor's an- nual spring exhibition of Japanese art opened yesterday morning, with a fine assortment of pictures from the brushes of the famous Japanese painters, Terauchi, Kobayashi, Tanaka, Ryoku, Kondo, Kiwazaki, Kato and several others,

In water colours there are about 100 fine pictures, and in oil about 20, which are especially fine spect mens of Japanese art. The scenes are particularly well chosen and the productions among the finest ever exhibited in the Colony.

A description of the pictures, if one were to do them justice, would be very difficult, but among the many a few may be specially men- tioned, such as Kyoto by night! (No. 3), views and seascapes by Terauchi, the Fujiyama pictures (Nos. 27 to 30), and several pictures by Kobayashi, including scenes in Yokohama, Tokyo and Hakone. Kondo's Temple of Taakusa, Sumą, and Kamon are also worthy of special mention.

The exhibition is open
