LONG PLEASURE
FLIGHT.
MILLIONAIRE greeted IN.
HONGKONG.
The privilege and excitement of a long pleasure trip in an aero- plane does not fall to the lot of everybody, but Mr. Van Lear Binck, the American millionaire and newspaper magnate, is in-. dulging in this pleasurable recrea tion, and yesterday afternoon he landed in Hongkong, doing a "hop" of 400 miles from Hanoi in. less than 4 hours.
Yesterday's "hop" made by Mr. Black and his crew was a distance of some 400 miles, and the trip was done in excellent time. The machine was due to leave. Hanoi about 10 o'clock in the morning, and to arrive at Kai Tack about 2 p.m. but owing to a late start. Hongkong was not reached until 4.16 p.m. Many people who had gathered at the aerodrome had left by the time the flyers did ap pear, the general impression be ing that the plane would not ar- rive until to-day.
When it was sighted, the ma- chine appeared like a huge bird. Three times the "Maryland Free State" circled the harbour, with its three powerful engines, each capable of developing 520 b.p., purring evenly, and then the pilot directed its nose towards the land- Ing ground. He made a perfecti "grounding," after executing "dummy" landing, and a few minutes later there stepped out from the spacious cabin Mr. Van Lear Black, whose flights have aroused the interest of all associa ted with aviation.
Mr. Black Greeted.

Mr. Black, who is a tall, clean-
dressed in shaven man, was light grey suit and hat and car- ried kid gloves. He was im mediately greeted by Squadron- Leader S. T. Freeman, of the R.A.F., Kai Tack, who subse quently introduced to the flying millionaire Mr. M. J. Quist, the Netherlands, Consul-General for Hongkong, who was accompanies by Mr. A. Elberg, (Manager of the Netherlands Trading Society). Mr. Stekkink, Mr. Van Andel, Mr. Reins Hargin (Manaver of the Delhi Planters' Association), and Mr. De Bruyn (representing the Netherlands India Commercia Air Services).
A little later. n Press re- z brief. talk presentative had with Mr. Black, during which he expressed himself as having had a most pleasant trip, a though the weather had not been very kind to them. He explained that the fight was being made to the Far East from London and back, the outward journey having been taken via Spain, North Africa, Algiers, Cairo, Delhi, Cal- cutta, and Karachi, From Hong- kong, the flyers would journey 15 Shanghai by boat, and the light be continued to Tokyo, Manchuria and Siberia.
Almost immediately after lané ing. Mr. Black made enquiries as to how long the a.s. Columbus was due to stay in Hongkong, with the apparent intention of booking o passage for both himself and his machine to Shanghai.
Accompanying the millionaire are Mr. G. Y. Geysendorfer and Mr. Y. B. Scholte, who are pilot- ing the plane, Mr. L. J. Bayline, his valet, and Mr. I. Dunk, & mechanic.
During his stay in Hongkon Mr. Black will be resident at the Peninsula Hotel, and it is his in- tention to make a tour of the is land and surrounding country,
