YOUNG INDIAN MAKES
GOOD SHOWING.
There was a most interesting pro granime yosterday in the Hongkong Cricket Club tennis tournament, when M. K. Lo, M. W.. Lo and S. A, Rum- Jahn appeared in frat round ties of the Open Championship Singles.
There was disappointment for those who delight in surprise results, how. ́ever, although M, K. Lo was fully ex- tended by J. A. E. Cassumbhoy, a young player who only needs ex- parience in competitive tennis to'place him in the first grade of players. In experience played a large part in his defeat by Lo yesterday. The latter simply walked
away with the first Lwo
sets, Chasumbhoy appearing to be "nervy" and he made for more mis- takes than usual. There was to wrong with his sivke production, but he timed badly and did not wo his feet to very great advantage. These opening sula gave the Indica- tion that Lo was to' have an eggy three-straight sets passage into the second round, but his youthful oppo nent executed an astonishing change In his came in the third chapter, and, making all the play, took the set without the loss of a game. Still adopting a clever and effective attack, he gained a lead of 2-1 in the fourth sel, but again"impsed' to allow Lo "ta come up and level the scores, Cat- sumbhey won the, seventh game but it proved to be only a momentarily ad- vantage, as Lo captured the next and
the math Cassumbhey should have Jend love 40 ofl' Lo's service in the tenth game, but a faulty service de cision robbed him of a valuable point, and la, playing with great coolness and determination, eventually ran home the winner, capturing the final set at 0-4.
S. A. Ramfaith was far from. In- pressive in his match against A. D. Humphreys, and will not be able to afford to make so, many mistakes in subsequent rounds.
M. W. Lo enjoyed nu easy passage into the second rouul, winning in straight sets, with the loss of only two games against Lak Kang-cheung, Yesterday's resulta in detail were as follow:
