WINNER OBJECTS TO HUGE DISCOUNT.
Shanghai, Nov. 18, Although it is now nearly a week since the first prize of $224,000.00 of the "A" Champions Sweepstakes of the Shanghai Race Club's Autumn Race Meeting was decided, the holder of the winning ticket. No. 48866, has
not as yet collected the cash. Owing to the complicated nat
nature in which the ticket was bought, a dispute bas arisen, and it now looks as if both the Shanghal Race Club and the ternational Recreation Club will take steps to settle the pifair and if they fall to do so, the case atay be brought up before the Shanghai Provisonal Court.

Claims Expenses.
As far as the Shanghai Race Club Is concerned. it was stated that it had paid the prize in full, that is $224,000.00. It appeared that a cor- tain responsible party of the I.R.C. claimed that he is entitled to the balance of about $84,000 for certain alleged expenses in the procedure of the purchase, cashier of the ticket, A statement

been issued to Koo on Friday morning when he went to the I.R.C. to collect the prize Not satisfied that the prize should be thus discounted, Koo refused to take the cheque affered him. It is said that Koo hud with him at that time a well-known Chinese lawyer, Paoli Tsiang, for he sensed before- hand that he would not collect the full amount due him,
Later on, that same" day, Koo wrote a letter, to the Stewards of the Shanghai Race Club, presenting the cnne before them and appealing for consideration. At the same time, a similar letter was written to the Stewards of the International Recrea tien Clab. Just what steps the ste wards of the two organizations will take has not yet been ascertained,
