HARBOUR RACE.
THE DISARMAMENT · CONFERENCE.
· MISS M. GEORGE WINS LADIES' EVENT.
MEETINGS IN AMERICA
AND LONDON.
Miss Moude George yesterday wrested the ladies's harbour race from
Tokyo, Oct. 22. Miss Kwok Chol-ming, the former champion, thereby reversing the post-the arms conference is scheduled The Japanese delegation to tions which they occupied in last, to sail from Yokohama on year's event.
The contest, which represents the ehief local aquatic event for the ladies, was marked by a very exclt ing dinish. So evenly did the race resolve itself between these two that the result romained a conjecture until within a very few fest of its com piction. By

over-arm stroke, Misa George was able to draw' ahead of the Chinese girl, and Anished A very few seconds ahead. A salvo of applause came from hundreds or spectators who watched from the waterfront in this vicinity;;,
Twelve competitors took the water together from the Kowloon end, at a spot near the Railway clock tower, and, attended by a fleet of sampars and launches, began the rather tire. some swim across the mile or so of themom the water separating them finishing point adjacent to the V.R.C. Fortunately, the water was in fine condition, the sen being not more than ordinarily choppy.
What little current there was flowed towards the east, but at the half-way mark buoy the water was almost lifeless. For this reason, some of the competitors who expected an active current thereabouts and had accordingly set their course to take advantage of it on their return, found themselves to far out east. Bliss George, however, was more cautious. She kept on a bee line, heading straight for the finishing point most of the way, and only deviating slightly towards the cast
when she was more than two thirds of the distance across. Plod ding steadily behind her was last year's winner, Miss Kwok Choi-ming, and it then became apparent that the race would be between these two.
The Chinese competitor, using a breaststroke the whole way, gained steadily on Miss George, until it tho entrance to the enclosure between Murray Pler and the V.R.C.
both swimmers were dend level.
Thrilling Finish..
Miss George was seen to be tiring, anking very little headway with her over-arm stroke, but encouraged by the deafening cheers of the spectators she pluckily put all her strength into the struggle of the last few yards, and won. She finished only nine seconds ahead of Miss Kwok, the res- pective times being:
4
Miss M. George 41 min. 40 secs. Miss Kwok Choi-ming, 4 min. 0
Secs.
These compare with last year's timer, as follow:
