MR. PERCY A. BEST ON THE SHRINE OF FASHION.

Oxford, Aug. 20.

Mr. Percy A. Best, managing director of Messrs. James Shool- bred and Co., Ltd., speaking,to-day at, the summer school of the Dra- pers' Chamber of Trado aere, said that, in his opinion, women would always wear French clothes.

"Paris is the shrine of fashion. Saturday, October 5th.

to which specialists in women'a garments go from all parts of the world. Why is this? Because the Latin race, particularly the French, look upon women in an en- tirely different light from that in which we look upon women.

"We regard women as sacred representatives of motherhood. We enshrine women, and, there- fore, cannot expose them. The French glorify sex artistically Therefore, they emphasise that which they glorify. So the Latin people will always undress women to the glorification of their sex, and, therefore, women will always wear French clothes."

Mr. Holbrook Jackson said that the drapery trade had probably more influence as a creator or de stroyer of taste than anything else, except possibly the cinema, He urged his hearers not to be afraid of new art.

"My advice to every owner of a big store, next time he makes alterations," he said, "would be lo invite Mr. Epstein to supply the decorative stonework. It would be worth thousands of pounds of advertising."
