UNLUCKY LOK SUN.

MATERIAL STOLEN BY FISHERMEN?

Many theories have been ad- vanced as to the most likely cause of the fire on the stranded B.B. Lok Sun, and while it is thought in some quarters that the outbreak on Saturday was probably due to the spontaneous combustion in tho' bunkers, which contained approx: imately 150 tons of coal, the Lopinion held by some people is that the fire was caused by flahermen in search of loot.'

This seems to be borne out by a report made to the Police by Mr. T. H. G. Brayfield, of Messrs. Carmichael and Clark, the owners of the vessel, who states that over the week-end, a quantity of Manila rope, three steel wire hawsers. Bom awnings, tarpauline and a quantity of ship material were stolen from the Lok Sun. by fishermen. The total value of the material' stolen is not given.

As reported yesterday, the Lok Sun was sold on Monday afternoon by public auction at the Lammert Auction Rooms to the Sun Fat Co., of No. 640 Canton Rond. for $11,900.

BLAZING LINER.

Now York, July 1. With smoke and flames pouring from the ventilators, and with the band paying lustily to calm pas- sengers on the promenade deck, the Humburg Amerika liner Deut schland steamed up Now York har bour from quarantine this morn- ing. The crew were fighting the flames, which did £2,000 worth of damage before they were extin guished.

So successful were the crow's efforts that outside assistance was not needed, but the crew's quar- tors on the C and D decka wore badly damaged, and it was neces sary to tear out/some partitions, while the fumes were so heavy in i the crowded space that members of the crew fighting the flames donned gas masks.
