the devoted to the crawl, diving and other honest-to-good- mess aliings connected with the zeo. 'Silks, however, have quite a place in swimming suits, especially the rayan moires and figured satins. Linens appear in cote looking swimming suits, with step-in of jersey underneath trimmed with the linea.

Orange is a new enlor for beach things and quite stylish this year. Contrast it with lemon yellow, and it is very striking. Some- imes white and dark brown combine. Blue and white is a popular combination, more cheerful than black and white. Dark greens and medim blues take reveral lighter and brighter shades of their own cular intricately cut into the tuits for colorful decoration.

The un-back is almost universal now, for swimming and sitting. So are fuller skin. The step-in jumpers with little shorts but- faned around the waist are the newest swimming quits. These step- in jumpers solve the problem of keeping the jumper down. Plain shorts, with checked polkandotted or moungrammed uppers are chic and youthful looking.

Beach wraps may be conts of jersey lined with terry cloth or other absorbent fabric, they may be jersey capes or little jackets of the ruit's material. Some imports feature quilted skirts, ankle length, to be slipped on over one's suit, with the sun-back top left uncovered while beach slippers and a parasol of the skirt's material give the wearer a quaint, denure and altogether charming look even, though she sits there with practically no waist on..

Beach pajamas are invariably ensembles, with perhaps a printed silk two-piece suit of flaring trousers and. tuck-in sleevelers blouse and then a short or long cost of plain fabric lined with the print, or touched up with it if it is an unlined ensemble.

Overall site come in silks or linens. The tuck-in blouses that accompany these lang trower suits are feminine to the nih degree, featuring jalats, soft necklines and fine Hand-work. They are apt to be of jazzy fabric, romelfing like checkered or dotted handker. chief linen or batiste on even figured silk.

Headgear for the beach is an intricate problem this summer. Bathing caps are rubberized kerchiefs in plain or figured silks, berels or other caps. The newest is the airplane helmet of rubber- ized silk, a neat looking headpiece, with car flaps and everything. with ties from the carflaps knotting in a chic bow in the tent. the lounging ensemble one may wear a huge sunshade, shiped like a farmer's list, but infinitely more expensive, coming in Milans, panames and other high grade straws.

Sandals stili bold high favor and are very decorative with flowers in felt or rubberized ribbons decorating them. Clogs in colorful

reds, greens, blues and golds are still good. The newest beach shoe feature medium high heels, whether they are rubber shoes or wooden sandals. The very low heel has been found uncomfortable by so many women,

I. BIZARRE and very jaunty is a navy blue and white striped shorts ensemble of rayon inoire. The striped shorts button around a navy blue step-in jumper, which is really a neatly cul gar ment that takes the place of tights. The jacket is a cute cardigan that ties shut with a'narrow sash. The sleeves are finished with jestey cuffs.

II. LIKE ile girl's party frock is this delicate pattel blue printed silk suit, decorating itself with a series of feminine little bows, cutting its short skirt with side pleats and using a little sach to tie in front. This is pre-eminently a little sun-suit, rather than a swimming suit, and its rear has a deep V-cut...

III. TYPICAL of the new, decorated beach footgear are these black lacquered clogs, with gay flowers painted on the tips and a little nosegay of bright felt flowen decorating the vamp. Shorcraft created these.

IV. THE diversity of beach ensembles is shown when two or three gather together at the ocean's edge. The brown and orange, printed silk and jersey ensemble (left) has a frock and knee- length coal.

From Paris comes the pajama suit (center) with its distinctive color combinationwhite silk dotted in rose, blue and light green is used in combination with a blue chat lined with white. Six-inch appliqued dots of the rose, blue and light green flaunt their color around the inside of the sleeves and around the inside of the short flaring jacket.

The trousers are cut pleated at the waist, with tapering legs. The tuck-in, sleeveless blouse has a smart sports neck. A belt of dark blue lica it at the waistline.

For the real swimmer, there is the ensemble blue suit (right), topped by a feminine looking little raglan coat of chartreuse jersey that ties under the chin, in urchin fashion. The colors combine beautifully and are among the season's most popular.

V DECIDEDLY different is this feminine little linen suit with jersey coats and tights, made of a fine handkerchief quality of linen, printed in a green and white pattern. It has a bow tie, a tight waistline and godets introducing fullnes, quite in the manner of a daytime frock. The coat has big pockets edged in the linen,

VI PALE blue and a bright, hard blue join in diagonal scal lops in fashioning this swimming suit meant for the ocean as well as the beach. The skirt has an inverted box pleat to give full- ness and the shorts underneath have two rows of buttons to adjust the required belt line. Pale blue fashions the beach coat topping it, but the border in of bright blue, joined in the same diagonal scal« loped fashion.
