London, May 18. "Those who imagine "talkios" are the craze of the moment are going to wake up just in time to see themselves go under."

The above opinion was express- ed by Mr. Edgar Wallace in his speech as chairman of the British Lion Film Corporation, Ltd, at the drst annual meeting, at Win-

cheater House.

The talkie has temporarily swept the silent film industry out of existence," he said.

REPORTED.

Shameen, June 22. The annual general meeting of the Shameen Sports Club was held yesterday evening in the Canton Club. ed.

SINGAPORE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

CHINESE REACH DOUBLES FINAL.

As expected, the Chinese pair Khoo Hool Hye and Chua Choon Leong have reached the final of the Singapore doubles championship, but although their superiority was obvious they had no walkover. Roy Smith and D. H. Hazell put up quite an interesting opposition, and when the Chinese won it was at. 6-3, 6-3,

Play was not as fast as has been seon in this competition, and gen- eral opinion is that Hool Hye and Choon Leong have fallon below the form they attained some years ago, are experienced players, They however, and probably do not "pull out" more than is necessary to win.
