tered as Kowloon Inland Lot No. 2185. Although measuring only 17,000 square feet, it was a much fancied site, bordering as it doos Prince Edward Road, which is likely to ba the main artery of a rapidly developing district.

In consequence, there was keen competition at the sale, some four, ar fiye bidders forcing up the price hetween them, until within a few minutes of the commencement of the bidding, the figure had risen, by bide, of $100, varied by two offers of $200, to the total of $13,200. At this figure, a sale appeared, to have been effected, with the fall of the hammer, but immediately afterwards, two bid. dors came forward who both claimed the property.
A provision in the conditions of sale had provided for such a con- Ungency, and the auctioneer air- nounced that the property would inve to be put up again. Accord- ingly, the anle was re-opened upon the basis of the last and highest bid, and with two bidders com- poting against each other, the Crown was further benefitted to the extent of $900. At $14,100, the property was sold to Miss H.M. Gomes, agent for the estate of the late Dr. H. A. Gomes,
Attention was drawn by the Auctionear to the special condi- ations of sale, which stipulated that not more than two houses should be erected on the lot. Such build- ings must be detached or semi-

Somewhat similar conditions were also attached to the sale of a second lot, situated near Prince Edward Road, within close dis- tance of the first lot, and regis- tered as Kowloon Inland Lot No. 2176. It has an area of 39,000 aquare feet, and at the upset prico of $19,500 was a tempting offer.
However, only one other. bid beyond the original bid was forth-. coming, and this came, somewhat, 3 reluctantly from a Chinese con- tractor. The first bidder promptly raised the figure by another $100, and meeting with no further com- petition, secured the property at $19,700. The price works out at a little over 50 cents per square foot.
