Mr. Marton reminded, witness that he had given in evidence that the mitral valve of the deceased's heart was deficent and whowed traces of definite past disease, Witness was asked if he thought it would have taken very much to have killed Zetterberg. Dr. Dovey replying that he did not think so. He thought that any- thing might have killed him. blow of the fist might easily have proved fatal.

Witheas went further and shid that the alcohol alone might have killed him. His condillon was consistent with neute alcoholic poisoning. He might have died without a blow being struck at all,

Mr. E. R. Dovey, the Government Analyst, was next called. He said that he received the stomach and a portion of a liver from Dr. Dovey. On examining the exhibita witness found traces of alcoholic poison- ing but no other poison or dele- terious substance.

His Worship said that he ex- pressed very strongly the opinion that Bernson should stay on for the trial. He was quite sure that the Chief Justice would comment very severely if he were allowed to

The Court then adjourned till the afternoon, when Detective Inspector Lane went into the wit nesa box. Witness said that he visited the Royal Arrow at 11.50 p.m. on Friday in company with Mr. T. Murphy (A. D. C. I.). On going to the oilers' room, witness nw the deceased lying on a bunk. In the cabin witness pick- ed up three beer bottles and twe whisky bottles. Prisoner Charged.

The prisoner was charged at the Central Police Station shortly be fore noon on Sunday last in the presence of Mr. Murphy and Mr. Karsten Larssen, Consul for Den- mark. The prisoner was asked if he was willing to be charged in English or if he preferred an interpréter. He intimated that he could read, write and speak English fluently and agreed to be charged in that language,"

In reply to Mr. Marton witness said that when he saw Bernson he was not excited. Both the oiler and the prisoner were not, drunk but had the appearance of having had some drinks.

Answering a further question witness said that the broken glass, was not examined for finger prints as it was useless because others had touched the glass before the police arrived. It appeared as if the glass had been swept into one place when the body was moved.
