Clutch Out of Line,
Question. The frame of my-- ear was so badly broken in a wreck that I had to have a new one and since that time three clutches have broken, although the service station people have checked up all the parts and can and nothing wrong. When I press the clutch pedal there is a chattering noise, but when the pedal is back this noise ceases. Can you tell me what is wrong?
Answer-It may be that the bell- housing which carries the clutch i was sprung out of true in the wreck and this has thrown the clutch out! of line with the crankshaft, so that stresses are developed in the parts Lhat cause them to fail. The noise you speak of is probably from Im- perfect action of the clutch release mechanism,, which may be out of ine, You may find that the only permanent remedy will to a new bell-housing, if the present one can- not be trued up so as to lot the clutch work without abnormal strains being thrown upon it.
