Weymouth, Mar. 26. The British submarino R narrowly escaped disaster in collision this afternoon with the de- stroyer. Thruster.
The necident occurred about! twelve miles off Portland, the collision taking place as the sub marine came to pariscope.depth. Both her periscopes were seriously damaged, but there were no casual ties.
The destroyers Thruster, Salmon, Torrid, and Rowenn, and the sub- marine H. 44, H 49 and R 4 were carrying out axercises in a fairly calm sen at the time.
