LIGHT AEROPLANES.

ITALY FOLLOWING ENGLAND'S EXAMPLE.

Italy is following England's means in its power, the development example by encouraging, by every

of the light aeroplane and of pri- vate and club flying.

A competition for light seaplanes is to be held there during the sumr mer, and an order has been placed with A.D.C. Aircraft, Limited, for British-made Cirrus light uero- engines to fit in some of the com- peting machines which are now being built,

In England the idea of the light... aeroplane was first formulated by Sir Geoffrey Salmond and Sir W. Sefton Bruncker. There are now thirteen Government-assisted flying clubs and one unassisted club. There are also a number of small clubs in the R.A.F., such as the Cranwell and Halton cluba.

£60 is given by the Government » for every "A" pilot's licence secured by a member trained entirely by the club, and £10 for every "A" licence" [maintained. One hundred and fifty new pilots have been provided this year, and during the whole time the clubs have been operating there have been only two fatal accidents.
