Shewan, Tomes and Co.), which is to be presented to shareholders at the third yearly meeting, which is to take place on July 22nd., states that the balance at debit of Proft and Loss Account for the year onded 31st March, last, Is | $23,668.20, which is carried for

ARCHITECT SUED.
QUESTION OF CONTRACTOR'S 'DEPOSIT.
Mr. A. R. F. Rayen, architect, was the defendant in an action at the Summary Court this morning when the Wing Sing Co. claimed $500 in respect of a deposit alleg ed to have been paid in connexion with a proposed building contract.
Mr. W. D. Owen appeared for the plaintiff firm and Mr. J. A. Gordon Lensk for the defendant.
Mr. Owen said the plaintiff paid the money in connexion with a July of that year there were cer- building contract in 1925. In

He said that he asked Mr. Raven for a receipt when the money was paid; but the latter said it was un- necessary as the deposit would be returned if plaintif was not suc- cessful in his tender.
Mi. Leask said his 'defence would be that the money had not been paid, and that if it had, it had not been received by the de- fendant.
Judgment was given for defen- dant, with costs.

TIFF WITH POLICE SERGEANT,
A scene, at the Yue On pawn- shop, 62 Queen's Road Central, when Sergt. D. Fitches was abused by a Chinese, resulted in the man being summoned before Major C. Willson, at the Central Police Court, this morning, för using abusive und abscene language.
Sergt. Fitches told the Court that he was examining pledges at the pawnshop at about eight o'clock yesterday evening when the usual crowd collected round the doorway. He motioned them 2,656 to go away as they were obstruct- Ing the footpath and they did so 178 with the exception of the defen- dant, who stood in the doorway in 100 un insolent attitude.
