$60,000,000.
SOVIET ADVISES HANKOW. In direct contravention of the Reorganisation Loan Agreement, the Nanking Government proposes to raise no less than $60,000,000 on the security of the Salt Gabelle. This, added to the recent announcement of new Nationalist surtaxes, is causing considerable apprehension in the North, and the Diplomatic Corps, at Peking, has held a meeting to discuss the new situation.
A Chinese report states that an attempt is being made to win over to the South General Chang Hsuch-liang, the son of Marshal Chang Tso-lin, on the plea that his joining the Kuomintang would "save North China."
The status of the British Concession at Tientsin was the subject of a further question in the House of Commons yesterday, it being stated that the question of rendition was still being considered.
That the Communist Party must immediately leave the Wu-han Governmen though retaining its place in the Kuomintang is the advice given by M. Bukharin, in the course of an article in which he says that the present leadership in China has failed because it placed the Northern campaign above everything else.

PARTIES IN THE DISPUTE DEADLOCKED.
In reply to the opposition motion, Sir Austen Chamberlain out- lined the British policy in relation to international questions, and Mr. G. Locker-Lampson seconded his statement. It was emphasisedTM that Britain desires nothing but world peace, and is prepared to ald any nations in the attainment therefore,
It was hoped to bring about early evacuation of the Rhineland, a full agreement on disarmament questions, and generally to promote good feeling. Nothing would be done in the way of committing the country to treaties with other nations without the previous approval of Parliament. Relations would be reзamed with Russia on the cessa- tion of the Soviet's Anti-British campaign.
