Major Segrave straightened the car out, but skidded to the left again. He fought at the wheel, missing a crash into the rails by the narrowest margin, after which he carefully drove off.

If his plans do not miscarry, it was learned from him, he would leave on July 1 and be back. In time to attend the opening of the legis lature on July 16.

When asked of the object of his trip, the senate leader declared he wanted to give himself a little rest to be physically prepared for the arduous task of the coming legisla tive session.

Mr. Quezon probably will spend most of his brief stay in China in Shanghai. When he was reminded that thore also many newspapers in Shanghai, he admitted that is the only discouraging thing in his plan but he expressed the hope they are a lees persistent lot. "I am willing to take a chance," he said jokingly.

the accused and some others were washing their bullocks in the Serangoon River.

Д

The complainant, Chinese, named Chua Goh Leong, was at the time coming down the river by himself in a sampan, in which. he had a load of pineapples. On nearing the accused and his friends, the complainant called out to them to clear the way as he could not get by.

Instead of doing so, however, it is alleged that they attacked and wounded him and stole his pine- apples. They placed the wounded man on the bank, and ran away. Dying Deposition Taken.

Some time later the man was picked up by a passing, car and taken to hospital suffering from a fractured base of the skull.

So bad was his condition that Mr. H. R. Bull, Second Court Magistrate, was sent to talte his dying deposition. The crisis pass- ed, however, and the man is now on the way to recovery.

The accused was arrested and later identified by the complainant as being one of the men who had struck him and stolen some of his pineapples.

The case was postponed and bail allowed in the sum of $500,
