COCHET WINS THE SINGLES TITLE.

London, July 2 In spite of the dull weather, Wimbledon attracted a huge crowd to-day when the singles finals were played, the gates of the centre court being closed before play began.

Holen Wills (America) defeated Senorita d'Alvarez by 6-2, 6-4, in the final of the Ludies' Open Singles.

The match was a battle between contrasting styles. Helen Wills con-. tented herself with exploiting her fore-hand drive, keeping good length, while Senorita d'Alvares refied on her backhand. She often netted, however, or drove out of the
