Canton, June 16. General Chien Ta-chun, the anti-Red Field-Marshal, had a nar- row escape on a burning train on. which he was travelling from the Kiangai front to Canton, on Tues- day afternoon.

General Chien boarded the after- noon train at Shiukwan about two o'clock, together with a number of bodyguards.

The train also carried a large quantity of paper and tobacco.

Shanghai, June 17. Marshala Chang Tsung-chang and Ste Chuan-Tang have sent out a joint telegram. pledging their Joyalty to Marshal Chang Tso-lin. They

suggested that Marshal Chang should be upheld as the Generalissimo and asks the Feng- tien chief immediately to take up the Generalissimo's office otheially.

Chu Yu-pol,commanding the Chibli contingent has arrived at Peking to take up important military questions with Marshal Chang Tso-lin.

The outposts of the Fenglien and Shansi armies are not far apart in Shichuang but so far there has been no dash. Shansi troops under General Haang Cheng have made their appearance in Sigyang and Chahar, according to reports reaching Peking yester day, when Marshal Chang Tao-Jin ordered more divisions to rein- force the Three Speciál Terri tories. KIANGSU REFORMS.

Comprehensive Programme, The Kiangsu Provinical Recon- struction Bureau held its first meeting on June 8 since its in- auguration about one month ago in Nanking. At this meeting the functions and duties of the Bureau were clearly defined; that the work of reconstruction for the entire province be commenced at the earliest possible time.

Among the important functions of the Bureau the following are given as an indication of the na- ture and scope of its activities.

1. To determine the territorial boundaries of the Province of Kiangau.
