ONE NIGHT ONLY FAIR.

Trafalgar-square took on appearance of a country fair ground on a recent night, after the evór loudening roars of lions, tigers, and hyenas as their cages neared the Nelson monument had startled horae-going thousands.

The great yellow eagen on wheels, with heavy shatters hid ing the terrors of the jungle from view, passed through the square with no greater mishap than the infletion of mild shock upon a few score of elderly people.

The mechanical galloping horses, however, were doomed to remain all night under the guard of Nelson. The axle of one of the biggost waggons ever acon in the square broke with a snap. The dam in London's most important traffic roundabout cansed Incon- venioncó for a time, but at last. the galloping horse section of the fair was propped up by the kerbside for the night with wood blocks under the axle,

Throughout the right one cor- nor of the aquare suggested that Trafalgar-square would be gay with roundabouts the next day. But if the highly spotted and ornate horses were doomed never to be unpacked there, they caused As much amusement for an hour or so as if they were actually go ing round and round.-
