THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH,
TAIKOO BALL
THREE HUNDRED VISITORS PRESENT.
The annual ball of the Taikoo Club Invariably attracts a large and cheerful crowd to this out of the way corner of the island. The 1927 function, held test night, was. no exception to tho many brilliant celebrations which have gone be fore. Visitors made their way to the Club from the Peak; the Pen- insula and all parts of the Colony.. and spent a very happy and anter taining evening amid congenial surroundings. There is a homely atmosphere about the. Taikoo Ball which appeals to many dancing en- thusiasts and with the generous hospitality dispensed, makes it one of the most enjoyable functions of its kind during the year.
There were some three hundred visitors at last night's ball, most of them travelling by car, though quite a good proportion arrived by aunch. There was an adequate service of Indinches both to Hong- kong and to Kowloon, no less than five being engaged between 12.30 and 3 o'clock this morning in taking the visitors home again,
Brilliant Decorations.
The entrances to the Club were gaily illuminated with coloured lights, twinkling their welcome to the guests, as they arrived. In- side, a real transformation had been effected, all the rooms being brightly and effectively decorated for the occasion.
Chief attention, of course, had been paid to the dancing hall, where the scheme of decoration, carried oat on the Dennison crepe paper system, was striking and attractive and.Commanded general mamarillion. THE TUUM KAs a blize t of colour, red, yellow, blue, green and purple streamers rinning to all corners from tho delicately shaded lights. As usual, Mr. John Swire's framed photograph occupied a prominent position int the hall, above the dance indicator, and below were the letters "T. C." in red, on green and blue grounds.
In order to provide the maximum Accommodation "for the dancers, the orchestra was placed in the gallery. A revolving coloured spot light produced a pleasing effect and when the proceedings were in full swing the scene was brilliant and beautiful.
The Dance Programme, The Brunswick Orchestra played a splendid programme of dance music and materially contributed. towards in enjoyable evening. There were twenty-two dances, in- cluding the Laucers. Eightsome reels, waltzes and, of course, the, ever-popular fox-trol.
Supper was taken in the billiard room in the course of the evening. The decorations here were sub- dubd compared with the dancing Hall, but nevertheless pleasing. The catering was done by Lane Crawford's, who are to be congra- tulated upon providing an appe- tising and satisfying meal.
