ROOM FOR MORE 'EXPANSION.

Detroit, Mich... With automobile manufac- turors turning out 3,800,000 cars and 500,000 trucks in 1925, and with an approximate total re- gistration of 2,000,000 motor vehiclos now in the United States, the automobile industry is asking itself how long it can keep it up...

on the expansion of the paved highway programmos, on the pricon of the curs themselves and on the prosperity of the country.

EXECUTIVES' SIXTH SENSE.

Mr. C. D. Hastings, president of the Hupp Motor Company, answering the same question Bays the automobile business has to be run with a high degroo of common sens, and is susceptiblo to periods of depression like any other.

However, he says, the automobile executives have do veloped what amounts to a sixth senso in forecasting lulle in the "As a layman. I have nas the slightest idea when the point will be reached. Certainly thore ts no sign now that anything of ihe sort is imminent."

That the automobile industry is essentially stable despite its great expansion, is the opinion of other Detroit makers, answer. ing the same question put to Mr. Wilmer. They point to the great investment in the business, the vast and firm monetary founda- tion it has, the place of the motor-car in the social life of country, the replacement markets for automobiles aponing at home, and the new markets opening abroad. Such an industry, they declare, is as firm as any in the country.

MOTOR TRUCKS,

As far as motor trucks go, Mr.. Martin T. Pulcher, "hoad of the, Federal Motor Truck Company, points out that the United States has a smaller percentage of trucks to touring cars than any other nation, indicating that whatever is the future for the motor car there is still plenty of. room for the motor truck.
