WAR REPORTS.
SOUTHERN TROOPS
ATTACK.
GROUND REGAINED. “
'A Chinese News Agency.again reports that despite the fact that the Allied forces had regained con-" aldorable lost ground, they were unable to hold on, for the Southern Armles were reinforced with suff- cient numbers" to make a counter- attack which, turned the fortunes: of war. Thus not only have the Southerners regained all positions previously lost, but they have now advanced to points which are only about thirty miles from Nanchang, The situation of Nanchang is now sald to be critical, and the Nan- chang-Kiu Kuang Railway has baen commandeered for transport- ing Kiangsu troops under Lu Hsiang-ting to strengthen the de- fances of the city,,
The attitude, of Sun Chuan-fang still uncertain. Time after time, he has openly declared that he will proceed to the front to take supreme command and also that certain units are being mobilised or are on the way to the front, but it is said that neither Chuan-fang nor any of his rein- forcements have made an appear- anco in the sphere of war opera- tions.
Sun
Tang Yu-terk is holding the im- portant salient of Tsing Kiang, as a big battle is considered immi- nent at that point. Besides, the Southern forces composed of the 2nd. Army Corps and Lai Sai- wang's unit are being rushed down on Lia Kiang Fu and Fu Chow Ki, Further delay on, the part of Sun Chuan-fang may cause Nanchang to fall into the hands of the South- erners.
AMOY REPORTS,
From Amoy it is reported that the advance guards of the two op- posing forces have come into elash at Wen Sul and Shiu On, but engagements have only beeh of minor importance.
A rather sensational report states that at the Military Coun-- cil held under the chairmanship of Chow Yum-yan af Cheung Chow, inost of his generals advocated coming to terms with the Nation- alist Government, This report, however, should be taken with certain amount of reserve.
Another report states that Tang Chi-yao has met with strong op- position, from the civil cfficers of Yunnan, to his expedition against Kwangsi and that in consequence he has not been able to make any further move.

WEST POINT FIRE.
DUE TO FESTIVAL CELEBRATIONS.
Within a quarter of an hour of the outbreak, a fire which occurred early this morning at West Point was extinguished.
At a quarter to one o'clock, a call was sent through from the West Point Police Station to the Fire Brigade Hoadquarters, and the first engine to be sent out was the appliance from the Kennedy Town Sub-station. This was quickly followed by an engine from the Central Fire Station, and, a few minutes later, subsequent to the receipt of the "home call," a third' engine was dispatched to the scene from Wanchai..
The first proved to be at 'No. 438, Queen's Road West, where,
due to some ceremonies arising from the Mid-Autumn Harvest Festival, flames had spread from a small oil lamp to a bundle of joss-paper, which in its turn got alight the surrounding woodwork of an altar-like arrangement. This was in a high-class native medicine shop in the ground floor, :

when the first of the engines arrived.
The firemen got to work with two deliveries respectively at the rear of the premises and `in Queen's Road, and precisely at one o'clock, the stop signal was sent through, on the flames being.com-" pletely extinguished. Although the whole contents of the medicine shop were unavoidably destroyed, a satisfactory feature of the case was that the damage was exclu- sively confined to the ground floor.
