Looking up old records, we see mention of a civil hospital having been built, as far back as 1859. This comprised nine wards, with a total of 71 beds, but it is stated to have been "superseded" in 1874, when a ten- porary hospital of 54 beds was pro- vided in Hollywood Road, this being
