Some interesting information in regard to hospital matters was given to a Telegraph representative a few days ago by the Hon. Dr. J. B. Addison, who confirmed the re- port that the authorities have under consideration the question of erect

Looking up old records, we see mention of a civil hospital having been built, as far back as 1859. This comprised nine wards, with a total of 71 beds, but it is stated to have been "superseded" in 1874, when a ten- porary hospital of 54 beds was pro- vided in Hollywood Road, this being
out four years later. The only other reference we can find to the subject is that in 1880 an additional block to the Government Civil Hos- pital was built, but neither in re- gard to this work nor in respect of the building put up in 1858 is there any mention of the locality.
