THE EPIC OF THE "TREVESSA"

1200 MILES IN OPEN BOATS.

The TREVESSA TROPHY " Race commemoratos to-day the, wonderful journey of a shipwreck- ed crew across the Pacife in open boats.

On June, 26th, 1923 the survivors in the first boat of the "Trevessa" reached the island of Rodriguez after 22 days in mountainous seas, and on June 29th the second boat reached land after having travell- ed 1,200 milok.

Their rations during all this time were half a bisouit, two tablespoons of water, and cigarette tin lid full of NESTLES MILK issued twice a day.

This was all they had to sustain 'them during their horoic voyage.

There is little doubt that but for the highly concentrated 'nourish- ment in NESTLES MILK the survivors could never have reach." ed safety.

NEW FIRE FLOAT.

A

THIS AFTERNOON'S DISPLAY,

Following H. E, the Governor's Inspection of the Hongkong Police Force at the Central Police Sta- iion, a demonstration will be held of the now fire-doat at 5.30 this afternoon, to which the public are invited. Instead of Queen's Pier,... It is now decided to carry out the test at Murray Pier, the change having been made because the lat- ter pier, which is nearer the Vic- toria Recreation Club, offers A point more sheltered from the north-east wind, which sometimes blows a regular gale across the harbour. Spectators, and particu- larly passengers on the Star Ferry boats, will also thereby be less ex- posed to the risk of being dronched by the delivery of 4,000 gallons or 18 tons of water per minute, working at a pressure of 150 pounds, from the float.

Y

The plan calls for the bringing into action of all apparatus with which the float is equipped. The monitore, or stations from which the deliveries are projected, will be brought into action, as well as what is termed the central; water tower. This latter may be com- pared to the turret of a warship. It revolves on a pivot and can be elevated to a height of 40 feet lo- obtain a better elevation for the discharge of the "gun." From the base of both the tower and the. monitora, there are worked the hose liries, and fn full action the float discharges a battery of threa big water-guna and a host of smal- leg hose pipes.
