The non-stop run was accom- plished by refuelling en route, petrol and oil being furnished the pace-maker by Studebaker dealers along the way in sealed tins. Refuelling was made possible by special connections with the gas tank from the rear seat.
The Studebaker used WGB strictly stork. car, with nothing removed to lighten it in any way. The only extra equipment carried consisted of a motometer, a front bumper, shock absorbers and two spot lights. The Duplex body, which has the roof of the car built in one unit with the lower body. was not touched!
Averaging 36.90 miles per hour, the sturdy traveller beat the average mile per hour time of the Sunset Limited, the fastest train on the Southern Pacife, which makes 815 miles in 23 hours and 30 minutes-with an average of 34.55 miles per hour-on its run from El Paso. Altogether the Studebaker set an unusual record for speed in its charge across the désert and mountain country, adding to the Studebaker laurels. in road records in California, all of which have been made by non- professional drivers.

Records made by Studebakers which still stand in California to-day are: Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, 854 miles in 23 hours and 43 minutes, an average speed of 36 miles per hour; three Los Angeles-San Francisco records- Valley Route, 441.1 miles in nine hours, 15 minutes and 50 seconds; Coast Route 458.7 miles in ten hours, 12 minutes, 30 seconds; round trip 864.4 miles in 21 hours and 23 minutes.
