In reply to further questions, witness said he had no reason to doubt that the work was not pro- perly done. He added that fur- ther along, to the west of the place where the collapse took place, there was an instance of the angle being too steep. At that point the slope was about five or seven degrees off the perpendicular.
Question of Sharing. Mr. Sample asked if there had been any shoring up at that place.
Witness: I have only visited it Jogee since the collapse and that was two days ago. On that oc- casion there was no shoring at this particular place,
Replying to a question by Mr.. Lindsell, witness said the spot had been much more safe in the inter- val between his two visits.
Mr. Sample said that he thought the part had been shored up, but taken away to make a new cut.
Police evidence was also given describing the extrication of the men who were buried by the fall. Mr. Lindsell intimated that he would like evidence of other in- spections which had been carried out to be called, and adjourned the inquiry for this purpose until Fri- day afternoon.
