THE PASSPORT CASE.

PERUVIAN AGAIN BEFORE

THE MAGISTRATE.

The case in which a Peruvian charged, with obtaining money bot means of false passports, was con tinued before Major. C. Willson at the Central Magistracy yester day.

The defendant, Augusto Go zales, alias Chan Mo-lan, id charged in the first instance wilk obtaining $710 by false pretence between June 1, 1924, and October 1, 1924, the money being party payment for a passport which would admit Mau Fei into. Ameri- en, whereas the passport issued to him was invalid, and Was En reality the passport of anothe person,

The second charge is of obtain ing $300 by false pretences Trond Fong Pui and $300 from Fong Wing, the money being in part payment for passports which would take them to Anterías, whereas defendant was not in position to supply such passports, and was not authorised to isang titem.

The third and fourth enarger are of obtaining $600 by: folzg pretences from Yan Cho. bing part payment for passports sup plied to Yeung Kee and Yeang Po and of obtaining $300 from. Laz Wun.

Nationalisation Papers.

At yesterday's hearing Mr. Leo d'Almada appeared for the defens dant, Detective Sub-Inspecto Darling prosecuting.

Yeung Yan-cho, who gave evid-. ence ut the previous hearing, waa recalled, and was cross-exami medi by Mr. d'Almada. Witness saźd he knew that the defendant was not connected with the American Consulate. Defendant never said he WAR

Mr. d'Almada: You knew ho was not a man likely to get you a passport?

Witness: He said he would get nationalisation papers froma živi Philippines.

Mr. d'Almada: Did, he tell you at any time that he couldi črno passports to anyone who wanded to go to America?

Witness: He said he causal Te- sue them. Defendant, so the Philippines were American uni- tority, and 0.5 nationalized bu Issued there, they papers were would be all right for Accarichi

Agreement Draan. Up

In reply to further questions, witness said that he never axir- fed nationalisation papers to res pect of his son, Yun Kee. Asked if he gained anything by his gent in the transactions, witness said he did not. He added that "dres cant promised him a cup of tea when anyone went to America.*

Evidence was also given bys Mau Fei. He gave details of the preliminary arrangements Te išo issue of the passports, and taldi how the money was paid over to defendant's brother-in-law respect of the passport.

He said an agreement was also. drawn up which guaranteed his safe arrival in America.

The case was adjourned until next Monday afternoon.

THE ALLEGED INDEPENDENCE

DECLARATION.

Tokyo, Jan. 14.

A message from Mukden says the report of Chang Tso-lin's al- leged declaration of independence, is untrue. It is considered the mistake originated from a pro- clamation suspending all relations with Peking pending the establish ment of a firm Government- Reuter.
