Evanston, Il, November 24. While celebrating the past year's football achievements of their team, the students of the North West University here, yesterday burn- od down the unoccupied "Fraternity Club. They started several other small fires and fought the police und firemen who attempted to Interfere. Several persons were injured on both sides and the police were finally compelled to make use of tear gas to disperse the thou- sand men and girl studenta.

Subsequently the students started to burn the old wooden stadium but dealsted when the University football captain explained that the new stadium would probably not be ready until next Autumn.- Reuter's American Service.

"AMERICAN AVIATION SCANDAL.

Washington, November 24. Colonel Mitchell, giving evidence in his own defence, reiterated the charge that the American Government departments were "guilty of almost treasonable negligence" because they failed to provide ade- quate aerial defence against foreign aggression. He expressed the opinion that an enemy aeroplane a hundred miles out at sea could drop bomba by wireless, directed at will, within an area as large as New York City and never miss the target-Reuter's American Service.

FRENCH CABINET CRISIS.

Paris, November 24. One of M. Briand's main objections to the Premiership is his desire to remain at the Foreign Office to finish the work of the Locarno Conference. The Radicals are agitating for an Hurriot Cabinet to include Socialists, but thirty Socialist deputies are opposed to participation in the Government, hence the Loft Cartel is threaten- ed with a split. The solution of the crisis is therofore likely to be delayed owing to a difficulty in finding a stable majority whereon either a Cartel Cabinot or a concentration Ministry could be based. --Reuter.
