BRITISH TRADE IN CHINA.

London, October 22. The correspondent of the Manchester Guardian commercial sec- tion, in urging the need of British trade propaganda in China om-: phasises the American, German and Japanese activity in this respect. Ho says that trade statisties prove that Britain is losing ground fni China, while other countries are galning it. "We are in danger of losing the Chinu trade forever. The British Government, supported by the big trade foderations of the country must take immediate steps to organise a very complete propaganda, in China in order to avert such a disaster.”—Reuter,

COMMUNISTS IN BRITAIN.

London, Oct. 22. Two more alleged Communists arrested by the Scotland Yard men last night were Hannington and Robert Arnot, both described as members of the Communist executive.

The four Communist leaders, Murphy, McManus, Arnot and Han- nington were remanded at Bow Street until to-morrow when they will be brought up with eight others and charged sedition and conspiracy to incite mutiny-Reuter.

Warsaw, October 22. The political police are very active against the Communists of whom 100 wore arrested at Bialystok and Slonim, including the entire executive committee of the Communist party in White Ruthenia.

The exchange of public health officers in the Far East has been instituted by the hygiene committee of the League of Nations. It Fegan in Tokyo on the 19th and will be concluded at Dairen on the 4th December. SALE OF LAND PROPERTY. FORCED.

The Senate has passed the first reading of the Calles Bill en forcing Article 27 of the Constitution whereunder foreigners owning land and water properties will be forced to sell them within, three years unless they become Mexican citizens. FRENCH WAR LOSSES.

Paris. October 22. According to a summary, the French losses during the presentes, war"operations, reported to have been"given by M. Painleve before the Finance Committee of the French Chamber, were 1,250 killed up to 31st July in Morocco, including eight French officers and 300 soldiers. Wanded totalled, 5,306, of which 160 were French afleers and 1,850 vidiers. Fram 1st August to 15th October, the period of greatest activity. 891 were killed, of which 31 were French officers and 293 soldiers, the Foreign Legionaries being counted as Frenchmen. The number of wounded for the same perlot totalled 2,991.
