THE LABOUR CONFERENCE.

London, September 30. The members of the left wing made an attack on Mr. Ramsay Macdonald in corpection with the Zinovieff letter which they say proved a fiasco, Lt the Labour Conference this morning. A com- posite resolution on the subject was introduced demanding inter alia that an apology be sent to the Soviet Government and Zino-. vieff, but it was overwhelmingly rejected-on a show of hands. Router.

London, September 30.

The Labour Conference overwhelmingly defeated a Commünist motion to refer back the section of the Executive Board's report deal- ing, with unemployment." Mr. Gallaghor of Paisley, submitting the motion, asserted that the movement was being handed over to the" middleclasses. Mr. Macdonald replying said that is was a libel to say that the labour leaders had blank cheques from Moscow and that it was time that such slanders were faced. He declared that nobody was less entitled to point the finger of scorn at himself or anyone else from the viewpoint of vulgar display of wealth or riotous living than the present British Communist leaders. (Cheers)—Reuter.

BORIC ACID IN EGG YOLKS.

London, September 30.

The Bakers' and Allled Traders' Association has sent a letter. to Sir Kingsley Wood asking for an extension of time before the enforcement of the new regulations in regard to the use of boric acid in egg yolks imported from "China. The association' say that they propose to try out two new methods of preservation by packing" in England and sending to China, and then re-shipping here in order to Bea the effect of the various climatic conditions on the contents of the barrels. Sir Kingsley Wood, in reply, regret" ted that he was unable to hold out any hope of a further extension of time-Reuter.

HUNGARIAN COMMUNISTS.

Budapest, September 80. Sixty Communists have been, arrested as a result of a police hunt all over Hungary. Three are still in hiding.

A semi-official statement denounces as insolent and untrue the communications received from Communist organisations abroad protesting against the alleged treatment" and even torture, of prisoners and demanding their release.-Reuter,
