Mr. Wolvin, President of British Empire Steel Corporation has stated that negotiations between himself and Mr. Lewis, repre- senting the United Mineworkers of America and Mr. Armstrong, Premier, and other Government Officials has not resulted in a settle ment of the strike of 12,000 miners, owing to the unreasonable attitude of the union, which has refused to consider a reduction of wages despite the fact that the company's coal operations have recently been run at a loss. The strike has been in progress six weeks.-Reuter.

London, April 20 "As a sequel to the recent outrages Bulgaria has asked the Allies for permission to increase her army by 10,000 men. A conference of Ambassadors will settle the matter. It is noteworthy that a con- ference recently approved a Bulgarian request for an additions! 2,000 men. Reuter.
