In an outspoken article in the Daily News deploring events at the Opium Conference at Geneva, whence he thinks the Empire is coming out anything but well, Mr. H. Wilson Harris says that while Amerlen is co-operating with the League unresavedly, her efforts have failed because Anglo-American co-operation has been lacking, partly because oplum is a vested interest in certain regions of the British Empire.

The death is announced of M. William Coute, M.P. for South Tyrane, who died after collapsing at a meeting at Belfast.-Brider,

The late Mr. Coote has been M.P. for South Tyrone since 1916. He was born in 1863 and married in 1889 and leaves four sons and one daughter. He was apprenticed to the provision trade and at 20 years started and successfully carried on a business in his native district. Later he commenced business as auctioneer and stock owner, and rented a large.mill premises idir for 35 years, where he started and developed the manufacture of woollen garus, subsequently forming this into a private limited company, of which he was the managing director. He was a 4.P. for Co. Tyrone, and a County Councillor. |
