ASIA AND THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS.

London, June 7, Addressing the Chinese and Aslatie students at Christchurch College, Oxford, Mr. Chao Hsln-chu dwelt on the under representa. flon of Asia on the Council of the League of Nationk, and urged that the Counell should be made up with substantial reference to the numbers of people comprised in the nations belonging to the League. It was essential that Asla should be very thoroughly represented, be cause it might have to speak with no uncertain voice on many vast issues raised from time to time. Nearly all the problems of first class importance germinated in the Far East, where many grent issues were springing from the meeting of world civilisations, mark ing the dawn of new and sometimes-conflicting-ideals. The League should be sufficiently authoritative and Catholic throughout the world to deal with all of them-Reuter.

RUSSO-CHINESE AGREEMENT.

Moscow, June 8.

Premier Rykoff, in an interview said that the Russo-Chinese Agreement to make the Soviet an active power in the Far East would open up unlimited opportunities for trade. An earlier draft agree- the Chinese Govern- ment was not signed owing, to pressure on ment from France and America, but public opinion in China realised the urgent need of an agreement. The document recently signed differed from its predecessors inasmuch as the Soviet had avoided all clauses likely to humilate Eastern peoples, M. Rykoff added that it would soon he illustrated whether Japan would show indifference to foreign pressure.-Reuter,
