SENSATIONAL CHARGE AGAINST FORMER
EDITOR.
(Our Own Correspondent).
Shanghai, June 6. The case of Mr. Herbert Wobb against the China Press, of which he was formerly managing editor, has opened in the Amorican Court presided over by Judge Purdy. The sult is for breach of contruct, the defence being, among other things, that Mr. Wobb neglected to attend to his duties through Intoxication.
Mr. Webb took the stund to-day to defend himself from the charge that he was himself un habitue of the cabarets. He declared that the China Press. carried three times the cabaret advertising of any other paper. He denied that he himself was habitually intoxicated. In regard to the office canteen, be said it was established become WTS time, and that he regarded it as a valuable factor in keeping work- ern within the office, instead of them straying outside to the bars.
