The lawn was the safest place to stay while shock after shock shattered Tokyo. not immun. Our picture shows nae of the first Cabinet meetings at the Premier's house in Tokyo. The Premier is on the left, wearinga light hat.

TOWER (RASHES TO GROUND.

The lower of this building fell at the first quake and killed a number of people whys were passing beinw. The picture was taken in Tsukiji, Kyobashi ward.'

EVERYTHING-FELL FLAT.

Houses collapse in the Tokyo earthquake as if they were of matchboard. Our picture shows a typical scene in Hibiya ward where motor cars were buried in the debris.

THIS WAS ONCE THE BUSINESS QUARTER.

The business quarter of Tokyo suffered terribly. Stark, utter ruip covers areas where once the business of Japan was, in large measure, trans ccted.

WAGON TRAPPED BY FALLING DEBRIS.

Similar scenes to this dotied Tokyo streets after the quake. The wall crashed and trapped both horse and driver, while the wagon was partially plunged into a crack made in the ground.

This ruined building was once a state building in Ginza street but it fell victim

to quake and fire,
