No other witnesses being called, Mr. Wolfe was asked by the Magis- trate (Mr. J. R. Wood) if he wish- ed to make any remarks.
Not An Innocent Person.
Mr. Wolfe said his contentions were that the defendant was not, an innocent person, who had the revolvers in his desk for, self- protection; neither was he keeping them for a friend. He was д dealer in arms, this point having been established" more by the de- fence than by the prosecution. The defendant's explanation of] why the Frenchman, when he took: away the Mauser pistol, did not, carry away the other pistol and re- volvers, was hardly believable. Mr. Wolfe suggested that the de- fendant retained the pistol and revolver with a view to getting business for these kinds of arms.
Mr. Jenkin submitted his client's story was self proof of truth by reason of the fact that in that statement the defendant had given to the Court and the police the only points upon which they had made their case against him. Mr. Jenkin submitted that there was nothing before his Worship which warranted the inference which the C.S.P. had invited his Worship to draw, that the defendant had been supplying firearms to ruffians in .this. Colony to shoot down the
police. This was 1 Саве that! could be met by a fine instead of imprisonment.
The Magistrate said that in re- cording a conviction he wished to say that he accepted in the main the story told by the defendant. The case would not have provided: any trouble in the hearing at all but for the application of the C.S.F. for the defendant's commit tal for trial, the C.3.P.'s view be- ing that justice would not be satisfied unless the defendant was sentenced to more than twelve months' hard' labour.
Fine of $500. He did not hold this view, and therefore decided to assume aum- mary jurisdiction, Where posEES- sion of arms was accompanied by circumstances which showed that the person found in possession was of an undesirable type it would be fitting to grant applications for committal. In this case it could; be reasonably referred from the circumstances that the defendant was engaged between certain off- cials in Kwangtung province and certain arme dealers outside, the Colony to arrange contracts for the sale of arrus, delivery under "the contracts to take place outside.

FLYOSAN
It is now definitely known that in nature malaria is transimtted only by the bite of the Anopheles mosquito
And despite the fact we have assured measures of prevention, malaria counts its victims by the hundreds of thousands annually.
Remedies against the multiplication of mosquitoes consist in draining their breeding pools and treating these pools with "Flyosan" A few sprays from the Flyosan sprayer in the bed-room before retiring will kill every mosquito present and prevent the appearance of others.
