"I can remember the days of! Then there was Dean Stanley, whose hand-writing was a terror to the printer. On one occasion my father could not make out & passage in an important letter which he had received from him, and he wrote back to ask him to tell him what he meant. "If you can't make it out I'm sure I can't" Dean Stanley replied. "I think," be added, "I meant to say so and so;" but the second letter was almost as difficult to read as the fira!.
