Mr. Tang Kang, President of the Supreme Court in Peking, in an interview given out here to-day, said that although the Government in China has necessarily an uphill task, it is doing reconstructive work. He intimated his intention on his return to urge Government to establish Fublicity Department, charged with making the actual condition of Caina known to Western Peoples in the latter's language.

He said he had arrived at the conclusion that a mistake had been made in adopting the Continental method of Judicial Procedure in China. He favoured the adoption of English methods. He was convinced that the result of the coming investigation by the Inter- national Commission, appointed under the Washington Treaties, will accelerate the disappearance of ex-territoriality.

In foreign exchange the outstanding feature is the strength of the pound sterling en New York, which is reflected in growing con- fidence in America in British trade and financial position. The pound touched 1.52% and closed at 4.52. Francs have been rather heavily sold. They went to 71.50 and closed at 65. Marka relapsed to 39,000.
