THE PORT OF SEATTLE The Publicity Department of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce announces: Seattle is rapidly approaching her former commer- cial position when during the war period this district was second only to New York in the matter of foreign and domestic com: merce. Her commerce this year will be well over the half million mark. The depression period is a thing of the past. Business in Rederal is climbing upward. More ships are coming into the waters of Elliott Bay and trade with even local pointa has taken a big spurt Seattle's foreizu trade and domestic commerce for last month was $52,459 321, compared to $30.900 330 for the sime month in 1921, or an in- crease of $21,658,901. This pick- up was registered in the Oriental impart, California import and Atlantic seaboard import trad as well as the trade with local points. Approximately $2,000,- 000 worth of goods passed over the Seattle terminals daily during the past month, whereas "6 year ako only half that amount was moving. During Jaly of this year the port's commerce was $41,159,144, or about $11.000.000 less than in August. For the first eight months of · 1923, Seattle's imports and exports have totalled to $303.358.160, as azaina: $232.626.189 for the game period last year. There are four more months left in "1982. The movement of Washington apples, via refrigerated, ships, to the Atlantic seaboard and Earope. and the movement of baik and sacked grain from Puget Sound will commence this fall, and this will

materially increase the volume of trade during the ladder part of this year. It is HKP prediction to say that the 192 commerce figures of Bavile will. be well over $500,000,000,
