GREAT FIRE AT TSINGTAL.

It is reported in a special Tsingtan message that two ex- plosions took place at the shed on No. 3 pier in Tsingtau port on the 14th. ult. A fire was cansed by explosions and it continued to burn more than four hours, the sheds being almost completely demolished. The destroyed abeda were to be handed over to the Chinese authorities before long. The cause of the explosion is attributed to the careless bandi- ing by some Chinese coalies of chlorate of potash brought by a steamer there the same morning. The flames from the chlorate. caught hold of the adjacent sheds containing & quantity of oil and matches. Some six coolies out of 40 at work there and a Japanese foreman were injured. Forty-four tons of chlorate of polash, about 4,000 cases of petrol, 150 cases of calcium, and some lumber con- tributed to the blaze. EBBW VALE COLLIENES CLOSE DOWN.

The whole of the collieries in the Ebbw Vale area belonging to Ebbw Vale Company are closing. down for an inde Suits period, and the iron and, steel works belong- ing to the same company are also closing immediately. About .. 10,000 men will be rendered idle. This is a sequel to à dispute res specting the price list award of Professor Galloway in regard to underground workers,
