COLD-STORADE INSULATION,

The Enginearing Committee of - the British Food Investigation Board has issued a report con- taining much information of interest to those concerned with, cold storage insulation on ship. 'board. The committee inresti- gated the insulating properties of various materials used for cold storage construction and found the mest promising one to be rubber expanded by gas into a 11 bea highly cellular form. viewed under A law.power microscope, the material shows a structure made up of minute celts bounded by `rubber "mem- branes sad forms an exceedingly light solid of a density vVATÇİDE frem 0.039 to 0012 (37 to 3-lb. per cubic foot. The air cell structure with thin boundars walls of low conductivity materis! is the ideal one for heat insula- tion. The conductivity of this material is about 0 000025, which is about one-and-a-half times that of still air and lower than that of cork or any other sub- stance studied by the cammittee. It may be further mentioned that cork. stagwood, charcoal and wood fibres, when of good quality sad dry, bave practically the same thermal conductivity, viz.: 0.00011 gm. cal, per second per cm. per 1 degree centigrade. Still air bas a thermal ductivity of only 0.00005, or -barely half of that of these las: named materials.

Kimura are the prin- cipal figuras. Numerous "spies" of the company were believed to be among the audience, and the lights were dimmed with a view, it is said, to presenting employed wakers in attendance being dis tinguished by the spies. Mears. Shibata, Ogawa. Obala, Hashi- moto and Ito, all interested in
